Kap10Kurt : 暖かい歓迎に驚き！

「KitsuneUdon/Kitsune+Osawa Shinichi」に収録された「Dangerseekers」が大人気な７色のシンセとリアルドラムが体を騒がせるKap10Kurt。Japan Tour終了後のKap10Kurt(k10kとLeah)に初日本の感想や音楽のバックグラウンドについて聞いてみた！

Kap10Kurt is...

NY在住のスイス出身プロデューサーKAP10KURTとドラムのレア・シャピロの二人組。

ファッション系の若者に人気のレーベルkitusneよりリリースされた大沢伸一＋KitsuneミックスCD「Kitsune Udon」のKitsuneチームのミックスに組み込まれていた事により一気に認知度があがる。その話題曲を先日12inch、i-tunesで発売。リミックスに大沢伸一、Tepr、Yuksekを起用して話題を呼ぶ。
春にはMSTRKRFTなどとヨーロッパでライブを予定するなど2008年必ずヒットするアーティスト!

-- まずは、福岡でのショーそしてJapanツアーお疲れさまでした！今回のツアーで思い出に残った事、日本でのショーで感じた事（反応の違いとか）はありますか？

-- Did you enjoy the Japan tour? What are your memories of this tour? And what is the thing you felt was different in your show in Japan, for example the audience response?

k10k:

日本は、僕の人生で「ちっぽけだけど行きたいとこリスト」の一つだった...僕はこんなに日本のみんなから暖かさとフレンドシップを感じる事が出来るなんて思ってもみなかったよ。そしてライブに来てくれた子だけじゃなくて、新幹線の乗務員とかお店の店員さんまでもが凄く親切で、僕たちが日本語を話せない事や肉や魚が食べれない事を理解して接してくれたんだ。それなのに、Varium(東京)の親愛なる友人でイカしたDJ Kanomataが通訳してくれたりご飯の注文をしてくれたりとにかく凄くよくしてくれたんだ。

Japan was on my very small list of Places to see in my life...I could not believe how much warmth and friendship came from the crowds in japan. And not just the audience, even the workers on the Shinkansen or in the shops were so helpful and understanding about us not speaking japanese and having a strange diet ( i dont eat meat or fish) But our dear Friend and great DJ Kanomata from Varium Tokyo helped with translating and ordering Food a lot.

Leah:

昨年11月各国で爆発的に売れた話題のdangerseekers。日本で高い評判を得たKitsune Udon / Kitsune + Shinichi Osawaにも採用された。

日本にきたのも初めてだし、日本でツアーしたのももちろん初めてだけど、「他のどの国でもこんなに暖かい歓迎を感じる事はなかった」と、これだけは言いたいわ。みんなには、ホントびっくりだよ！みんなホント心底音楽を楽しんでたし、もちろん私たちにとってもそんなお客さんのために演奏するのはホント楽しいの。そしてさ、自分たちの音楽がこんなに知られてるなんてホント思ってもなかったし、特にDangerseekersがこんなに日本で知られてたなんてさ。

This was our first time in japan, and our first tour in japan and i must say i don't think we have ever felt such a warm welcome in any other country. The crowd was amazing! People just seem to be really really exited abut music and of course it is always fun to for us to play to a crowd like that. Also, i didn't really know that people knew our music, especially Dangerseekers, so well in Japan.

-- ショーを見る限り、お二人はとっても仲が良さそうに見えましたが、いい関係をつくるための秘訣はありますか？

-- I felt that you are very friendly, so tell me what is the secret from which relations are made.

k10k:

はは、僕は日本みたいに素敵な国にこれたのが、単に心底ハッピーだっただけなんだけどね。僕らのトラックをみんなが気に入ってくれたのは本当にうれしかったよ。僕らの音楽で作り出そうとした感情とかをわかってる人とかも中にはいたりしてさ、それがちょっと驚きだったかな。。。特に、歌詞のない、音だけのミュージックだから理解するのはちょっと難しいと思うんだけど、日本のみんなは確かに理解してくれてたからね。

Haha, I am just really happy to have come to such a wonderful place like Japan. And am really happy when people like the Tracks we make. Its still always a little bit of surprise that someone can understand the emotions we try to create with our music, especially because there is no Lyrics, just music...Makes it a bit harder but Japanese people did understand, for sure!

Leah:

うーん、素敵な人じゃないからって関係が悪くなったりはしないんじゃないかな。。。だってさ、私たちが日本で出会った人ってすっごいいい人ばっかりだったから、もちろん私たちもよくしてあげなきゃって思っちゃうよね。一般的にさ、私は自分がよくしてもらいたいなら相手にもよくしてあげなきゃって思うのよね、そうしてると自分は大丈夫だって思えて夜気持ちよく眠れたりできるじゃない。

Well, I don't think you are going to get very far in life by not being a nice person. Also, the people we have met in Japan are extremely nice so of course we will also be nice to them. Generally, i think its important to treat other people the way you would want them to treat you... that way you can sleep good at night knowing that you are a good person.

-- Kap10Kurtと言えば80's、Classic Game、なイメージがありますが、イメージづくりに意識している事はありますか？

-- There is an image of Kap10Kurt that is kind of 80's classic computer game, what do you consider to image-making?

k10k:

噂のcommodore64?正直見たことないですw

それってまさに僕が幼い頃スイスに住んでいたときから思ってきたことなんだ。僕はcommodore 64は持ってなかったし...それってリッチな子供しかもってなかったからね... Depeche Modeみたいにシンセサイザーを弾きたかったよ、うちの母親がバイオリニストでその代わりにチェロを弾かされてたな。だからさ、それって僕がずっと願ってきたことだったんだ...でも今やっとそのイメージを形にできたからね！やったね！

Its just what I actually wish i had, living my young years in Switzerland. I never had a commodore 64...that was for rich kids..i wanted to play synthesizers like Depeche Mode but instead i had to play Cello, because my Mother is a Violinist. So i think its what i wish I had...But now I can have it! Yipee!

Leah:

彼が音楽を書くときにカートは奮い立ってるってそれだけよ。私たちは決して椅子に腰掛けて計画立てたりしてないのよ、だから私たちのイメージとか音楽はクールだったりトレンディーだって見られたり聞かれたりするのかしら。私たちはだだ自分たちの好きな音楽とかビジュアルを結合させ合ってるだけよ、それをね自分たちのオリジナルにスペシャルブレンドしてるのよ。

These are just things that kurt has been inspired by when he writes his music. We never sat down and planned that our image and music would look and sound a certain way because its hip or trendy.. We kinda just combine and draw from music and visuals that we like and combine them into our own special blend.

-- 今リスペクトするミュージシャンはいますか？

-- Is there a musician whom you respect now?

k10k:

左上Victory for the Comic Muse/ Divine Comedy、 En Direct De La Cote/ Tepr。左下Pop-Up/ Yelle、X/ Class e cal

もちろんいるよ。"ディヴァイン・コメディ"の大ファンなんだ。ニール・ハノンは歌詞を書くことや和音構造、空想的なストリングパートにおいて天才的だよ。エレクトロニックミュージックではTepr（Yelleと一緒に活動している）と東京のClassEcalの大ファンだんだ。

Yes of course, I am a huge fan of "divine comedy" Neil Hannon is a genius in writing clever chord structures and fantastic string parts and lyrics.In electronic music i am a big fan of Tepr (who works with Yelle) and ClassEcal from tokyo.

Leah:

ドラマーとしての私はデイヴ・グロール（ニルヴァーナ、フー・ファイターズ）を超尊敬してるわ。彼は世界で最も偉大なドラマーの一人だと思うし、彼のプレイスタイルったらホントにかっこいいのよ。トミー・リーもワクワクさせてくれるドラマーよね！私のドラムのスタイルは、激しく打ちまくるロックに影響されてるわね。

As a drummer i have a huge amount of respect for Dave Grohl (nirvana, foo fighters). I think he is one of the best drummers in the world and his style of playing is really cool. Also, i think Tommy Lee is a fantastic drummer! My style of drumming is mainly influenced by hard hitting rock drummers.

マシーンではないLeahとk10kのグルーブが心地よい！黙々とCoolに叩くLeahが時々k10kに合図をするメェーがセクシーでした。

-- 福岡のショーで「日本のマシーンは良い」と言ってましたねw Kap10Kurtサウンドの機材を教えて下さい。

-- You did say that "This machine is not Japanese, so bad!. Japanese machine is great!" didn't you? Please tell me which machine parts Kap10Kurt is using?

k10k:

はは、僕の機材はドイツ製の照明以外は１００％日本製だよ。えーと、ローランドのSH-101、ボスのSP-202サンプラー、アレシスのコンプ、ボスのコンプ...全部日本製だ！Mackie ミキサーはアメリカ製。。。

Haha, my setup is probably 100% Japanese except a lighting box from germany. Let me think...Roland SH-101, Boss SP-202 sampler, Alesis Compressor, Boss Compressor...All japanese! The Mackie Mixer is from USA...

Leah:

サンプリング機能搭載のパーカッション・パッドのSPD-S(左)とトリガーペダル(右)。

私の機材はホント必要最小限のものよ。ローランドのspd-sサンプラーっていうドラムの音を格納させる機材を持ってるわね。ヘッドフォンのクリック音とドラムをミックスしてるから私は小さなミキサーってことかな。そうしてるのは、私のはトリガーペダル（キックドラム）とフラッシングスネア（kurtの発明品）だからなの。

My setup is very minimal. I have a roland spd-s sampler that stores all our drum sounds. I small mixer so i have my own headphone mix of clicktrack and drums. And then of course my trigger pedal (kick drum) and my flashing snare (which by the way something Kurt invented).

-- 少し話がそれますが、電車がとても好きらしいですね。新幹線に乗って感動したとか。。。電車のどういうところに魅力を感じますか？

-- By the way,You said that you had been impressed to take the Shinkansen and you love the train, so what is the charm of the train?

k10k:

HOスケール（エイチオースケール）とは、1/87に縮尺された模型（主に鉄道模型）の総称。(by wikipedia)

電車のスピードとデザインには感嘆するよ。あんなに美しいデザインで、さらに時間通りに運行されている、本当にスゴイ。小さいときから模型電車が好きで、HOスケールの新幹線と車両２台をもっていたんだ。その頃から僕は、新幹線には魅力を感じてたんだ。

The Speed and Design of the Train is just amazing. Such a beautiful train and very exact in timing. My fascination with Shinkansen started as a young boy because i was into model trains and i had a HO scale Shinkansen locomotive and 2 passenger cars.

-- ドラム歴はどれくらいですか？あと、スネアーから叩くと光が出てましたがあれは何ですか？

-- How long have you been playing the drum? What is the light I saw when you were playing the snare drum?

Leah:

えーとね、スネアから出る光はホームメイドなのよ..カートがアイデア出してくれたの。あれは私がドラム叩いたら光るストロボなのよ。もっと沢山の照明が出せるようにしたいんだけど、予算の都合がついて機材を運んでくれる人の手伝いとかの都合もあるからまだ無理かな・・・

Well the light in my snare is very homemade.. Kurt came u with the idea. Its just a strobe light that flashes when i hit it.. We plan on incorporate many more lighting elements into our live show but we won't be able to do it until we have bigger budgets for touring and more people to help carry equipment.

-- 最後に、昨日の夕飯を教えて下さいw

-- This is the last question, What was your dinner this evening?

k10k:

いい質問するねー！僕、枝豆に超ハマってるよ！ニューヨークで音楽やってるときは食べまくるんだよ、片手で食べて片手でキーボード使えるからね。

It was so goooooood! Me addicted to Edamame! I eat it in NYC a lot when I work on music. Because i can eat with one hand and still play keyboard with the other.

Leah:

福岡では、主催者のu-Suckがちょっといかがわしい地区にあるビックリするくらい小さいレストランに連れて行ってくれたわ。小さいお皿で色んなものが出てきたわ....お刺身、枝豆、サラダ他にも２、３皿あったかしら....私たちは２人ともベジタリアンなのよ、でも私はお刺身もたべてみたわ。昨日の夜は日本が恋しくなってね、お寿司を食べにいったのよ。

In fukuoka the friendly organizer "u-Suck" of the night took us to the amazing little restaurant that was kinda hidden in a back alley.. We had a lot of different little dishes.. I had sashimi, edamame, tofu, salad and a couple of other little things.. We are both vegetarians although i do eat fish. Actually last night we went to a sushi restaurant here in NYC because we both miss japan....

さて、インタビューどうでしたか？ベジタリアンで新幹線好き。おもしろいお二人ですねー。最後のいかがわしい地区での様子はこちらから見れますよ。僕も良く行くお店なので写真を見てどこの店なのかはすぐわかったんですが、日本人なら特に何の変哲もないものですが、小鉢で出てくるお通しとか、簡単な刺盛りとか妙にコンパクトで変な感じなんでしょうね〜。
